1 John 4:16
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
The Lord God commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. You ask, “well who is my neighbor?” Our neighbors don’t just live next door in the neighborhood or apartment complex, they are the people you drive along side of while going to work every day, or the person who checks you out at the grocery store, and the homeless person standing on the corner.
If we continue to look the other way when we see a homeless person, how can we say that we have the love of God within us? We should never be quick to judge anyone because of what they are wearing, where they live or what kind of car they drive, if they even have a car. There are so many people in today’s society that have lost their jobs and families because of the economy and have nowhere to go so they are left to themselves.
True there are a few that panhandle for money just so they can buy alcohol and cigarettes, but if you just take a few moments and assess the situation, ask a few questions and find out what the situation is, then you will be able to determine if their need is genuine. Most often times, food is greatly appreciated and the Lord sees all that you do.
Being kind to someone not only makes the person feel better, but giving to someone in need will give you something to smile about because you know that you have made a difference in someone else’s life, even it is for a few minutes.
I encourage you to take the time and notice you are out shopping or driving to work if there is anyone along your path that could use a little help with a meal, a smile or even just a kind word.
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
So, show that you have the love of God in your heart and be a blessing to your neighbor.
